 1.𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐫 - Rafe and Danny, childhood pals, become army pilots and meet Evelyn, a navy nurse. The three of them, however, later find themselves in the heart of World War II's attack on Pearl Harbor.


Pearl Harbor grossed $198,542,554 in the United States and Canada, and $250,678,391 elsewhere, for a total of $449,220,945 worldwide. The film was the sixth highest-grossing film in 2001. In Japan, the picture premiered on 424 screens and made $7.2 million in its first weekend (including $1.6 million in previews), setting a new record for Buena Vista International and ranking sixth all-time in Japan. In China, it had a record-breaking opening, generating $3.9 million in just six days. It is also the third highest-grossing romantic drama film of all time, after Titanic and Ghost, as of January 2013.

Critics overwhelmingly panned the attack on Pearl Harbor. The film has a 24 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 4.5/10, based on 194 reviews. The verdict on the site is as follows: "Pearl Harbor wants to be the Titanic of war films, but it's really a drag of a romance with embarrassingly awful language. The action sequence, which lasts 40 minutes, is fantastic." The film has a Metacritic score of 44 out of 100, which indicates "mixed or mediocre reviews" based on 35 reviews. On a scale of A to F, the film received an "A-" from cinemagoers polled by CinemaScore.

2.𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐲 - The US Navy's resolute action, carried out on the orders of iron-willed admirals, aids in the defeat of the Japanese force in Midway Atoll.


Midway grossed $56.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $68.5 million in other countries, for a global total of $125.4 million on a $100 million production budget. 

Midway was released alongside Doctor Sleep, Playing with Fire, and Last Christmas in the United States and Canada, and was expected to gross roughly $15 million in its first weekend from 3,242 theaters.

On its first day, the picture grossed $6.3 million (including $925,000 from Thursday night previews). It went on to earn $17.5 million in its opening weekend, exceeding predictions and surprising presumptive winner Doctor Sleep by taking first place at the box office. The film generated $8.8 million in its second weekend, ending second behind newcomer Ford v Ferrari, before earning $4.7 million in its third weekend and finishing fifth.

The film has a 42 percent approval rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 169 reviews with an average rating of 5.2/10. "Midway revisits a well-known subject with modern spectacular effects and a more balanced point of view, but its screenplay isn't quite ready for war," the site's critics agree. The film received a weighted average score of 47 out of 100 from 28 reviewers on Metacritic, signifying "mixed or mediocre reviews."  On a scale of A+ to F, audiences polled by CinemaScore awarded the film an average grade of "A," while those questioned by PostTrak gave it an average of 4 out of 5 stars, with 58 percent indicating they would definitely recommend it.
