It's a good idea to take a look back at how the Transformers movies have been received over the years as a new installment of the franchise, Rise of the Beasts, is coming out in 2023.

Retaining more of the tenor established in 2018's Bumblebee. Even though Paramount is starting to go in a different way, the Bay Transformers movies are still very well-liked. The six Transformers movies are ranked in the following list.

6. Transformers: Age of Extinction

The fourth installment of the series made the controversial decision to completely exclude the Witwicky plot in favor of a new human character in the person of Cade Yeager. Sadly, despite the movie's box office success, fans' and critics' tolerance seems to have worn thin after three films without Sam Witwicky.

It seems unlikely that going from Shia LaBeouf to Mark Wahlberg would have been a mistake, yet that is exactly what happened in this case. Given that the writing does him no favors, it's not entirely just Wahlberg's fault. Age of Extinction is a terribly long game with a lot of pointless and unclear situations.

5. Transformers: The Last Knight

It was conceivably Michael Bay's final attempt at directing a Transformers film, and both reviewers and audiences found it to be disappointing. Although complicated stories were nothing new for the franchise, this particular film merely felt disjointed. Given the absence of Sam Witwicky, the knightly order of Witwickans simply felt hollow, and Quintessa appears on screen far too infrequently to be a fully developed antagonist.

4. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

The follow-up to the box office smash Transformers (2007) was not as warmly received as its predecessor, and given that this is the only Transformers film that director Michael Bay has admitted was "sort of a mess," fans were justified in their dissatisfaction. That was mostly caused by the writer's strike that was in effect at the time.

The romance between Megan Fox and LaBeouf, though, is the one aspect of these films that actually sort of worked. Even though it's not precisely plausible, their relationship gives you something to support because both of these characters are endearing.

3. Transformers

Despite some of its childish dialogue and ugly CGI clashes, viewers and even some journalists gave Michael Bay's debut entry into the Transformers universe very high praise. In terms of the Michael Bay films, the first one is still regarded as the greatest by the fandom as a whole because of the stylish new appearances of well-liked characters and the surprisingly fascinating human storyline, which is lost in the later films.

2. Bumblebee

Bumblebee restored the franchise's sense of wonderment that had begun to wane by this point, which many critics believed to be a much-needed second wind for an increasingly overweight franchise.

This spin-off, which features outstanding performances from Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, delivers the most plain yet also the most emotionally sophisticated story in the franchise while also showcasing the lead  Autobot at his most endearing.

1. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Dark of the Moon, which links the Cybertron war to the moon landing, wins the prize for having an exciting plot and memorable battles. In the film, Sentinel Prime, who finally betrayed the Autobots, is introduced to the audience. The brutal Battle of Chicago pulls out the best in both humans and Autobots.

When it initially came out, it did enough things right for fans of the Michael Bay franchise because it is also the most financially successful film in the franchise globally.
